COVID-19 impacts traditional Akron Open - New format this year
Safety protocol has changed this year's Akron Open Championships. With the popularity of this event, we could not cancel it. However, we are changing it to react to our COVID-19 environment. So now we have a 2020 Akron Open Series. We will celebrate this tournament tradition in a new way. We will have a series of limited participant events that will be held on certain days and times starting July 12 to July 26. Each event will be open to a certain level and limited to 8 players/teams per bracket. Each bracket will play at a set time and will play to completion. This will allow for less travel back and forth, and no waiting and with less groups of people. All play will consist of a compass draw if we get 8 players/team. If we do not get the 8 players/teams we will do an alternate format. Play will be continuous for the players. Players/teams will be randomly selected to fill the spots. Unfortunately, there will not be a player goodie bag this year, and spectators will not be permitted. Towpath will have the right to cancel the event based on current conditions.
